The Sumitomo Corporation Scholarship
"Sumitomo Corporation supports the development of future Omani leaders by providing scholarships to study at Japanese graduate schools."
The Sumitomo Corporation Scholarship for Omani Students was launched in 2019 by Sumitomo Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation Middle East FZE through the Sumitomo Corporation Muscat Liaison Office. It aims to support Omani students studying at Japanese graduate schools, foster future leaders, and contribute to private-sector exchange between Japan and Oman. The program provides support for tuition, living expenses, and round-trip travel expenses for two years to Omani students who wish to study at graduate schools in Japan.
Sumitomo Corporation Middle East collaborates with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research & Innovation of the Sultanate of Oman to administer the program, helping students select graduate schools in Japan and supporting them with the application and admission procedures. We also supported Students from Oman attending online classes during the pandemic when travel between Japan and Oman was difficult.
The scholarship program has received high praise from the Omani government, given the country's recent focus on energy transition, digital transformation, and the need to develop human resources in all fields, alongside the oil and gas sector. Furthermore, the program aims to help Omani students develop a deeper understanding of Japan during their time there, forming friendships and becoming bridges of friendship between the two countries in the future through research activities and regional exchange.
